How do you support literacy skills?

DBQuest introduces students to major questions in civics and history. A Big Question acts as guiding light for deep examination of three selected primary resources. Each document challenges students to dig into the text itself and find the relevant information through document–based supporting questions. DBQuest is designed to support social studies teachers looking for fun ways to support literacy skills or ELA teachers interested in digital writing tools.

You can search all iCivics resources, including Lesson Plans, that support ELA/literacy on the teach page. To get to this page, click the green “teach” button in the navigation bar at the top of the screen and then “SEARCH OUR LIBRARY” in the dropdown. Use the filter menu at the left of the page to find our ELA resources:

  1. Uncheck “Curriculum Unit” under the Content Type section in the filter menu. This will display ALL of our resources.
  2. Then scroll down to the “Tags” section of the filter menu and check “ELA/Literacy.”
  3. All resources that are ELA-compatible will now display. You can identify these resources by this icon:
